Mohammad
Abu Sall
Abu
Sall was born in Breij refugee camp (Gaza Strip) in 1976.
His time is spent between painting and giving art lessons
to children.
Abu
Sall is prolific and in a few years has produced several
series. One set deals with Palestinians’ love of their
land and the different realities of separation and exile.
He uses abstracted figures and faces either in groups or
alone exploring identity through color and image. In his
most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill
up his canvas— the cactus plant being a familiar Palestinian
symbol. In Abu Sall’s work the cactus, which he paints
in warm greens, ochre, browns and reds, are sometimes passionate
and raging, and other times, stoic and resilient.
Abu Sall currently lives and works in Gaza City.
